If you are one who believes that tooth loss is inevitable as a senior, our Family & Implant Dentistry team is here to change your mind set! It is very possible for you to keep a strong, healthy, and natural smile throughout your life, and all you need to do is keep up on oral hygiene, visit your dentist, and have a healthy and balanced diet.
To help you with your food and beverage choice, we are happy to give you the following tips:
· Eat the right foods: Do your best to eat fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and lean proteins. Please try to limit eating processed foods.
· Consume the right beverages: Sugary drinks can harm your smile in many ways. They can also lead to obesity, so it’s best to avoid these drinks. We also recommend limiting your alcohol intake because it can irritate the sensitive lining of the mouth and can increase your risk of having oral cancer.
· Get enough calcium: Calcium is very important, and we recommend that you consume about 1,000 milligrams of calcium a day, which is about 3 cups. It’s best to get the right amount of calcium by drinking low-fat dairy milk and by eating cheese, yogurt, broccoli, spinach, Swiss chard, and kale.
Another great way to take care of your smile is by replacing any teeth you have already lost. Having a healthy and balanced diet would be difficult if you did not have the chompers you needed to eat the right foods. So, if you’re interested in replacing your missing teeth or if you would like to know your options, please call 785-539-5949 and schedule an appointment with Dr. Josh Walker.
