Which Drinks with Stain Your Teeth?

Posted .

You’ve probably heard that there are a number of steps you’ll need to try if you’re interested in keeping your teeth and gums healthy. However, would you be surprised to learn that drinking some of your favorite beverages could cause a few dental issues? For example, did you know that drinking alcohol might affect your teeth and gums? In fact, alcohol can impact your gums, which could eventually lead to issues such as gum disease, which can also lead to serious dental problems. Unfortunately, if your gums aren’t healthy and clean, they can support your pearly whites properly—which means your teeth could ultimately fall out.

More drinks, like coffee and tea, can also cause you problems. For instance, did you know that coffee, tea, and dark sodas might stain your teeth? However, if you need your regular cup of coffee, adding milk might prevent staining. Similarly, if you want to avoid stains but still want tea, we suggest drinking a lighter tea.

Wine can also stain your pearly whites. Generally, we suggest choosing white wine over red wine because it’s less likely to discolor your teeth. However, please be aware that red wine may actually reduce gum inflammation, which can cause dental conditions such as gum disease.

Generally, you don’t have to stop drinking your favorite beverages altogether.
